WTWTG Garden Update...

Happy New Year everyone! I can believe we are already half way through January, the last month has been a whirlwind. With Christmas, weddings, and a week in the Coromandel with my family before wedding season really start to get busy, December and January have just flown by. My gardens have been really flourishing and I am learning so much about what I'm growing, what works and what doesn't, and what I need to change next season. The dahlia garden is looking lush and things are doing really well...

Spring Workshops in the WTWTG Floral Studio

This past weekend I hosted two workshops in my Waihi floral studio - a bouquet workshop, and a flower crown workshop. In the past I have hosted my workshops at our beautiful local restaurant and wedding venue Falls Retreat, but at this time of the year they're very busy with Christmas parties, so over the summer I will be holding my workshops at my little studio instead. I'm looking forward to bringing you more workshops up at Falls Retreat  later on in the new year. My home studio is very ...

The WTWTG Flower Garden

I thought this would be a good place to keep you up to date on what's going on in the Where the Wild Things Grow flower garden. I come from a family of gardeners, but I have never really put the time or effort into doing things properly or to the scale I am now. When we bought our first home that changed, I couldn't wait to get stuck in and make our property beautiful - when we bought it the house was great, but the section was extremely wild and overgrown, the previous owners/tenants had let it...

A change in focus...

It's coming up to Where the Wild Things Grow's 2nd anniversary, and with this comes a change in focus for my little business. I started my business with the idea of growing my own flowers and selling them to the public as market flowers. Very quickly I realised I wasn't quite prepared for growing so quickly, and I started purchasing flowers from the wholesaler and selling these as market flowers instead. Soon I was asked to create gift bouquets, then weddings...and so here I am. Two years on and...

Julie & Joseph

Julie is one of the most relaxed brides I have worked with yet. She came to me with a beautiful brief - not to flowery, textural with a good amount of foliage, gum nut boutonnieres, and proteas in the bouquets (which in January can be a challenge!) Nothing phased her and many of the details were left up to me to do whatever I liked. Having that kind of trust from your client is an amazing feeling - having creative freedom results in beautiful cohesion. I am lucky to have some incredible local ...

Boho Glam Styled Shoot | Raglan NZ

On Labour Weekend 2016 I took part in a styled shoot over at beautiful Ruapuke Beach in Raglan. Working with an amazing team of vendors to create our shared vision was such a great experience, and one that landed us a feature in NZ Bride & Groom magazine's December - February issue. ...

Helena & Asher - a Coromandel wedding

Helena and Asher have been together almost 11 years, and only recently decided they "should probably get married" - in true Helena & Asher style. This is a couple who are not only truly and passionately in love with each other, but who are extremely loving and devoted parents to their four beautiful children. Helena is one of the most chilled out brides I've worked with so far. She knew exactly what she wanted, showing me just one picture of a bouquet she liked, and asked if I could design...

Carlie & Dan - A Tauranga Garden Wedding

When my cousin Carlie and her fiancé Daniel asked me to do the florals for their November wedding, I was ecstatic and completely honoured. This was a wedding that was truly special. The ceremony took place in the garden on Carlie's parents' property, which is where she grew up. The property and gardens are beautiful, and reflect the years of work and love that have been put into them by the family. The wooden arbour the couple were married in front of was hand made by Carlie's father especiall...
